Burst your bubble girls!

Burst your bubble girls!

Hello…
This morning has been a weird morning for me. I woke up and checked my cell phone (just like everyone does every morning) and I was surprised with what I saw!
I read the article “Ladys can we talk about hump nails” and I think you should too. She is a bit harsh but she does make a point!

image

Hump nails. The picture you see above is what it’s called hump nails and what I call the weirdest nail style I have ever seen…
Many of you probably already knew about these nails but, honestly, I did not! Maybe because I have been so off these days, I don’t know. I did, however, saw a woman wearing nails like this in the street, but I thought she had done her manicure herself and she wasn’t good at it.
After reading that article I read another one explaining what hump nails & bubble nails are (coz they are 2 versions of the same thing), “Bubble Manicures Are the Latest WTF Trend in Nail Art”. Quote: “…these nail art creations are made by layering globs of acrylic on top of the nail in a dome shape. Then the tips are either kept short (bubble) or elongated (hump).”

image

While writing this post I was also searching about it, and I just found this picture.. No comments. I guess these are hump nails…
I don’t wanna be mean! Everyone has their own taste and we just have to respect it! I just wanna lay it out there that there is an actual disease that makes your nails look like that, and it is not funny at all!

image

Clubbed fingers, nail clubbing, drumstick fingers, watch-glass nails and/or Hippocratic fingers. This is normally associated with problems of the lungs and heart. But what better to give you information than Wikipedia? Check Clubbing nails.
It is not pretty you guys, and it is a serious thing.

image

I don’t wanna be gross, but look at the similarities!
I think you will agree with me when I say it is no longer a matter of taste.. It’s a matter of common sense. Why would you like to have nails that look like you’re sick? I bet the people that do have a serious disease do not like it.. Just saying!

DIY Matte Nail Polish

DIY Matte Nail Polish

Hello!
Sorry, didn’t had time to write this weekend.
However, here I am today with, what I think is, an awesome subject!
I’ve always wanted to make a matte nail art, or even a simple manicure, but I really didn’t want to buy a matte nail polish with out trying it, at least once.
While browsing online I found out  how to make it AT HOME!
So here is the tutorial: DIY Matte Nail Polish!

image

1. Start by finding a small plate where you can mix everything (I used a cover of an old Nesquik box).
2. Next you will need Corn starch and a nail polish (color of your choice, I chose black).
3. Add a tiny bit of corn starch into the plate and add a few drops of the nail polish.
4. Mix everything very well so that there aren’t any crumbs.
5. Apply the mix to your nails and VOILA!

image

If you wanna make that sexy contrast of matte nails/ non matte nails just use a top coat on the area you want it to be shiny!

image

Just like this! It is done you guys! Matte nails!
I’ve heard that there are other ways to do it, but this way is quite simple and efficient! (Up to you though!) 😄
Ok so that’s it! Nothing else to share! Hope I was able to help!
See ya!

Beauty 100 years ago!

Beauty 100 years ago!

Today me and my dear husband spent our day visiting the Heritage Park in Calgary.
For those who don’t know what this park is, I’ll explain. This park exists to show us how the west was before. It is quite impressive! It is a whole village where there are historical buildings, both domestic and commercial, including farms (its pretty interactive). There is a Town Square, a 1900’s living historical village, 1880’s pre-railway living, 1860’s fur trading fort and first nations encampment, an old Canadian Pacific train tour and a boat tour too.

image

While visiting the houses on display I noticed the bedrooms had various  beauty “tools” women used in those days. I started to compare them with the things we have nowadays and I thought it would be interesting to show you that part of the visit.

image

One of the houses I visited was the Thorpe House.
The Thorpe house was built in Calgary’s Eau Claire district, in 1886, by Bernt and Mathea Thorpe.
When they passed away the house belonged to Inez Marie Lillian Jacques (aka Lillian), the second youngest daughter. Lillian lived in the house until the city informed her that the house would have to be demolished and she would have to move, in 1969.
That’s when she donated the house to the Heritage Park.
While we were visiting the house the guide told us that Lillian used to come visit the house, sit on the porch and welcome the gests by saying “welcome to my home” up until she passed away. We also got to know that now the grandkids come to visit sometimes.

image

Here I noticed all the hair brushes, hair clips, bracelets (gold, beautiful!), even manicure tools! It is pretty cool! Beautiful accessories, I wish I had some of those!

image

Another house I visited was The Famous 5 Center of Canadian Women!
“Does the word ‘Persons’ in Section 24 of the British North America Act, 1867, include female persons?” This was the bold question that 5 women ask the Supreme Court of Canada.
Emily Murphy, Irene Marryat Parlby, Nellie Mooney McClung, Louise Crummy McKinney and Henrietta Muir Edwards fought for the womens rights in Canada in 1929. Long story short, they succeeded! Yeay!!!

image

The Famous 5 Centre of Canadian Women is a replica of Nellie McClung’s   house in Calgary where she lived with her husband from 1923 to 1932. The things on display actually belonged to her.
C’mon! Look at all those manicure tools! It’s a manicure kit! Isn’t it so amazingly cool? This is from more than 100 years ago.. Nail care is part of our lives for so long! 😍

Having said this… Go get a manicure! I know I will!
I not only got this info from my visit to Heritage park, but also from these web sites:

My first China Glaze

My first China Glaze

Hello my friends!
Today I will be talking about my new and first China Glaze (nail lacquer with hardeners)!
I have tried lots of nail polishes, all kinds of brand, good and bad, but I have not yet tried China Glaze.. Until last week.

image

So.. The color is “Five Rules” and I absolutely love it! Soft but classy! For those “not so sparkly” kind of days!

image

So I started by using it on my nail art with simple dots. I wanted to see if it was a good nail polish for detailing. My conclusion was: maybe not. Not that I didn’t like it, I did! But it dries quickly. Drying quickly is an awesome quality for when you are painting your entire nail but not when you need to spend some time with it for small details such as dots.

image

Later on the week I used the China Glaze to paint my nails, entire nails. I liked it! I loved it! The brush is just right! It doesn’t have too many hairs and it’s long but not too long. It is easy to use and supper smooth. The consistency of the nail polish is also pretty cool. Lets you paint your nails faster but well! As I mentioned before, it dries fast and that is a wonderful quality!
Best part is.. It didn’t brake yet! I definitely would recommend you girls to buy it!

“When my nails are on point, my life is on point ” … Well my nails do make me happy!

Ciaté Geltox Starter Kit

Ciaté Geltox Starter Kit

Hey! So it’s pretty obvious what I’m going to be writing about in this post today! Last week I bought the new Ciaté Geltox Starter Kit, only available at Sephora and I was supper excited! image My experience with it didn’t start well. I asked the lady at the check out counter to make sure everything was ok inside the box.. Of course she didn’t… And what do you know? The product was broken! I had to go back there to exchange it. It was very upsetting! I mean I was supper excited to come home and do my nails and when I open the box … I was disappointed! To help in the story, when I first bought the Ciaté kit I asked if the led light uses batteries or plug in, she had to call the manager and even so.. The answer was that it uses batteries… Of course it doesn’t! Anyways.. Now I have a good new Ciaté Geltox Starter kit. image Still not that great. The box says it will dry after 60 sec using the led light, it took me way more than that to dry them! Even then, they were not properly dry. image This was two days ago. Today, while folding my laundry (not a heavy job for your nails), the Geltox broke.. image To be honest this is the first time ever I did Geltox, hence the starter kit. Still I excepted it to be better. It is 120CA$ after all… image Not everything was bad. I did enjoy my nails for one day and a half. And maybe it will do better next time I use it. I’ll let you know! I hope you didn’t find this post too negative, I’m just reporting what happened according to my experience. I share my nail art frequently on my Facebook page and Instagram: http://m.facebook.com/weeklynails http://instagram.com/weeklynails_art/ Check it out! Weekly Nails

My first post

My first post

First of everything, hello!
I’m trying to make this first post something that really matters, but to be honest with you… I have no clue what to write! So.. My apologies!
I think I should start by telling you what this blog is (or will be) about: nail art!
I have a Facebook page and a Instagram where I post the nail art I do as a hobby. I am no professional but I am supper into it! I’m not the best (not even close) but I like to think I’m getting better as things go!
Having said this, I will show you the first picture ever of one of my nail art adventures and then the last one I’ve made (just finished doing my nails)!

image

Ok so this one with the crown was the first picture I posted of a nail art I’ve made. This was 2 years ago, I believe…

image

This last picture is the nail art I just made. Nothing much really, it didn’t end up like I wanted and I’ve done better, but since it is the last one I’ve made, I’m posting it. Love the color by the way! Wild & Wet never let’s me down!

That’s it guys!
